Indian cricketer Abhishek Sharma continued his impressive streak of performances, setting a unique achievement during the Asia Cup 2025 Super Four match against Sri Lanka on Friday. Abhishek, who scored yet another half-century, became the first player in history to accumulate over 300 runs in a single edition of the T20 Asia Cup.
The previous record belonged to Pakistan`s Mohammad Rizwan, who scored 281 runs in 2022. Virat Kohli and Afghanistan`s Ibrahim Zadran share third place on this elite list with 196 runs. This also marked Abhishek`s seventh consecutive score of 30+ runs in T20Is – matching the most in this shortest format achieved by Rizwan and Indian cricket star Rohit Sharma. This half-century was particularly significant for the young player, as it was the sixth time he reached fifty runs in 25 deliveries or fewer.
Abhishek`s innings concluded at 61 runs when he was dismissed by Charith Asalanka.
He has also joined Virat (319 runs in the 2014 T20 World Cup, 273 runs in the 2016 T20 World Cup, and 296 runs in the 2022 T20 World Cup) and Rohit (257 runs in the 2024 T20I World Cup) in scoring over 250 runs in a T20I competition. In fact, he is only the second Indian after Virat to surpass 300 runs in a multi-nation T20I tournament, and is just 11 runs shy of achieving the best-ever T20I performance by an Indian batter.
Abhishek`s total of 309 runs ranks as the fifth-highest by a player from a Test-playing nation in a T20I tournament/series, with England`s Phil Salt`s 331 runs in five innings currently holding the top spot. Abhishek needs 23 more runs to claim the top position here as well.
Abhishek has also joined the elite group of Indian batters including Virat (thrice), KL Rahul (twice), Suryakumar (twice), Rohit, and Shreyas Iyer, who have achieved three consecutive scores of fifty or more runs in T20Is for their country.
