Adelaide is buzzing with anticipation as the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships 2025 draws near, with exactly 100 days left until the city transforms into a vibrant hub of beach volleyball action. Scheduled from November 14-23, the championship will utilize The Drive and Pinky Flat, marking it as the largest beach volleyball event ever hosted in Asia or Oceania. Spectators are encouraged to join the excitement in the heart of Adelaide`s CBD.
Celebrating the 100-day countdown, a `mystery box` reveal in Rundle Mall delighted local residents. Olympic gold medalist and event ambassador Kerri Pottharst was on hand, distributing 300 beach volleyballs to eager fans.
Olympic gold medallist Kerri Pottharst, an event ambassador, expressed her excitement: “Excitement is building. This year marks the 25th anniversary of our Olympic gold medal, and Adelaide will be a pivotal moment to ignite the next golden era for our sport. Fans will witness our Australian men’s and women’s teams in action from day one, starting with the `Green and Gold Super Session` on opening night, where they will play alongside an Olympic medallist. It’s going to be electric.”
For the initial seven days of competition, Pinky Flat, centrally located in Adelaide, will become the `Central Beach District`. This specially curated festival aims to showcase South Australia`s lively beach culture. Attendees can step directly from the Adelaide Riverbank Pedestrian Bridge onto the sand, enjoying live music, local culinary delights, interactive volleyball activities, and a main stage with views of the Adelaide skyline. This innovative approach merges elite sports competition with a quintessential South Australian beachside atmosphere.
Andrew Dee, CEO of Volleyball Australia, emphasized the broader impact of the event: “Beach volleyball is such an exciting global sport, and hosting the 2025 World Championships in Adelaide offers Australian fans an unparalleled opportunity to see the sport`s stars up close. Beyond the court action, our team is crafting a vibrant fan experience in the heart of Adelaide, ensuring everyone, from seasoned fans to newcomers, will feel the energy.”
Honorable Zoe Bettison MP, Minister for Tourism & Multicultural Affairs, highlighted the benefits for South Australia: “The 2025 Beach Volleyball World Championships will present South Australia in its finest light – combining world-class sport with a lively urban setting and an unforgettable visitor experience. Our boutique city`s convenience and outstanding food and beverage scene make it an ideal sporting destination for both athletes and fans, a fact the global beach volleyball community will discover this November. Major international events like these Championships continue to elevate South Australia`s global profile and boost our tourism and hospitality sectors.”
