Ashwin Champions Arshdeep Singh’s Inclusion for Asia Cup Final

Veteran Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin highly commended fast bowler Arshdeep Singh`s performance, especially his tight two-run Super Over against Sri Lanka in the recent Asia Cup match. With India preparing to face Pakistan in Sunday`s final, Ashwin strongly recommended Arshdeep`s retention in the starting lineup, asserting his status as the team`s foremost bowler in the T20 format. Despite his crucial role, the 26-year-old has featured in only two of India`s six tournament games, taking two wickets.

On his YouTube channel, `Ash Ki Baat,` Ashwin stated, “Even before the Asia Cup began, I stressed that Arshdeep Singh`s presence in the playing XI is essential. He has once again validated my view. His exceptional Super Over finish highlighted precisely why he is indispensable. In Jasprit Bumrah`s absence, which is a significant void, Arshdeep delivered an outstanding performance.”

It`s worth noting that Arshdeep holds the record as India`s leading wicket-taker in T20 Internationals, with 101 dismissals, being the sole Indian player to cross the century mark in this format.

Ashwin emphasized that Arshdeep often goes unrecognized when premier bowler Jasprit Bumrah is in the squad. “He clearly demonstrated his elite bowling capabilities. With Jasprit Bumrah in the team, Arshdeep often doesn`t receive the attention he deserves, but I confidently declare him India`s top bowler in this format,” Ashwin asserted.

He further elaborated, “With over 100 wickets, he has repeatedly proven his immense value. The No.8 slot has to be Arshdeep Singh; his exclusion is simply not an option.”

During Friday`s match, Arshdeep bowled a masterful 19th over in regular play and then claimed two crucial wickets in the Super Over, limiting Sri Lanka to a mere two runs.

Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav confirmed his complete trust in Arshdeep for the Super Over, citing the bowler`s consistent performance under pressure.

During the presentation, Suryakumar remarked, “It truly felt like a final. The team displayed remarkable character in the second half of the innings. I instructed them to approach it as a semi-final—to maintain high energy and field tightly. It`s satisfying to emerge victorious.”
