Charles Oliveira and Max Holloway BMF Title Rematch Hits Early Snag

Sports News

While Charles Oliveira and Max Holloway both appear eager for a fight, discussions hit a roadblock less than 24 hours after the initial callout.

The former lightweight and featherweight champions previously clashed in the summer of 2015, with Holloway securing a quick knockout victory. However, the Brazilian has since fully adapted to the 155-pound lightweight division, though his rival likely feels confident in targeting Oliveira`s now “suspect” chin.

Last night at UFC Rio, Oliveira silenced many doubters by submitting Mateusz Gamrot in his return to action. He immediately pushed for a BMF title shot against Holloway, viewing it as an opportunity to avenge one of his past defeats.

Max Holloway Reluctant to Wait for “UFC White House” for Charles Oliveira Rematch

A significant point of contention between the two is Max Holloway`s desire to complete the fight as soon as possible. He expressed a preference to compete in March or February, given his last fight against Dustin Poirier at UFC 318 was in July.

Charles Oliveira, however, has stated his preference for the fight to occur at “White House,” tweeting earlier today: “White House Aloha!”

Addressing this possibility during his Kick stream last night, Holloway told fans, “I don`t know if I want to wait that long,” emphasizing that he would “be back to training soon.”

Instead, he proposed an early next-year showdown in Las Vegas, highlighting his leverage as both the BMF champion and the winner of their first encounter. “Maybe February?” Holloway queried. “Fight in Las Vegas or something. We`re fighting on my terms, brother.”
