Conor McGregor appears poised for his imminent return to action, and the Irish superstar has strongly hinted at the identity of his opponent.
McGregor hasn`t fought since UFC 264 against Dustin Poirier, making 2025 his fourth consecutive year outside the Octagon. During this prolonged absence, ‘The Notorious’ frequently teased potential comebacks, which reportedly strained the trust of the UFC fanbase.
However, when the promotion announced a high-profile event scheduled for the White House next year, McGregor immediately expressed his desire to be featured on the card.
McGregor Hints at White House Showdown
Over the last year, the Irishman has seemingly undergone a personal transformation, including a social media hiatus aimed at improving his mental clarity before a possible fight.
The 37-year-old recently returned to social platforms, discussing his renewed focus and claiming he was ‘shown his death’ during trauma treatment. His recent media appearances have displayed a noticeably calmer demeanor, suggesting his commitment to a serious UFC return.
This past Saturday, the former two-division champion further fueled speculation, teasing a UFC White House match against his longtime rival, Michael Chandler, via a video montage.
Although McGregor recently mentioned in an interview that his comeback could take place against anyone, regardless of his unfinished narrative with Chandler, the matchup remains highly anticipated. ‘Iron’ Mike Chandler has consistently expressed unwavering confidence that the bout with McGregor is inevitable and fast approaching.
Welterweight Clash Likely at 170 lbs
While the UFC White House event is slated for June, Dana White indicated that fight announcements would start rolling out around February.
If McGregor vs. Chandler is confirmed for this historic card, it will likely take place at 170 lbs (Welterweight). McGregor has publicly stated his goal of achieving the ‘triple crown’ and wants to earn a shot at the Welterweight title, potentially leading to a future clash against Islam Makhachev.
