UFC superstar Conor McGregor recently shared a story about the Paul brothers, Jake and Logan, whose temporary display of unity dissolved quickly after they first met at former President Donald Trump`s Inauguration ceremony.
The encounter took place in January, following years of public tension and amid serious discussions about a potential boxing match between McGregor and the elder Paul brother, Logan, possibly in India. The trio finally crossed paths en route to the White House. The resulting video went viral, featuring both Logan and Jake Paul taking playful jabs at the UFC legend.
However, McGregor claims that the moment the camera—operated by their mother, Pam Stepnick—stopped rolling, the siblings immediately began fighting among themselves. The subject of their dispute was the ownership of the exclusive footage, which both brothers recognized as a potential source of significant revenue.
McGregor Witnesses the Paul Brothers` Behind-the-Scenes Scuffle
The highly anticipated meeting occurred while the men were boarding a bus heading to the Inauguration, a situation that required them to leave their usual security details behind. The Pauls were accompanied by their mother, who diligently filmed the long-awaited face-off with the MMA star.
While Jake Paul had publicly mocked McGregor for years and consistently pushed for a fight, it was Logan who was, at that specific time, closer to finalizing an actual bout. McGregor expressed that he felt Logan missed the opportunity by failing to capitalize on the momentum.
During an exclusive interview at his Dublin pub, The Black Forge Inn, McGregor observed that once the cameras were powered down, the brothers` attention quickly shifted from him to each other.
“It was fascinating because they are content creators, these young men, they’re YouTube guys,” McGregor elaborated. He noted that upon his arrival, the first thing they did was rush to film, with their mother handling the camera. “So she’s doing her thing and we’re talking and what not.”
“Then we get on the bus and the two brothers start going at each other over whose footage it is! Is it Logan’s or is it Jake’s? I just thought it was funny. I suppose because there’s revenue in that, that’s their whole little world.”
A `Sweet Deal` for a Logan Paul Fight
McGregor confirmed that he had been actively working to finalize a lucrative deal with the Ambani family in India to host a fight against Logan Paul. Although Jake is the more established professional boxer, Logan was viewed as the more sensible opponent given his prior matches and perceived deficiencies in boxing technique.
The former two-division champion maintains that such a high-profile “nixer” (an opportunistic, profitable gig) is still possible in the future, but his immediate priority is returning to the Octagon to pursue the welterweight championship and secure the coveted “triple crown.”
“I had a sweet deal there,” McGregor noted. “Look, those YouTuber fights will come. I’m coming back for glory, for the gold belt, for the triple crown. That’s what I’m after. Look at Mike Tyson [who recently fought], look how fresh he looks, he’s an inspiration to me.”
