“Cup Chheen Sakte Hain”: Varun Chakravarthy’s Jibe After Asia Cup 2025 Trophy Drama

Cricket News

India`s victory over Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 final was reportedly followed by a rather bizarre sequence of events. Despite clinching the title, the Indian team`s celebrations were reportedly cut short when Mohsin Naqvi, who serves as both the president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), took the trophy home. This occurred after the Indian side apparently declined to accept the trophy from him. With no other official presenting the cup, the incident prompted a flurry of humorous social media posts from Indian cricketers, including mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy, who has now publicly shared his thoughts on the curious saga.

Following the match, Chakravarthy garnered attention for an amusing Instagram post. He was pictured lying on his bed, humorously embracing a coffee cup in place of the actual Asia Cup trophy.

“I had planned everything,” Chakravarthy disclosed during an interview on `Breakfast with Champions`. “After we won the second match [against Pakistan], I knew we were going to win if we played them in the final. So I thought I`d post a picture of myself sleeping with the trophy. But after the match, there was nothing next to me. Just a coffee cup. So I went with it.”

The spinner further articulated his confidence and perspective on the unusual situation, stating, “It felt good, I knew we were going to win all the matches. We are the No. 1 team in the world. Cup chheen sakte hain (you can snatch the cup), but we are champions.” This statement clearly conveyed his sentiments while also offering a subtle critique of Naqvi`s actions.

Varun Chakravarthy, who currently holds the rank of the No. 1 T20I bowler according to ICC rankings, played a vital role in India`s Asia Cup success. He secured an impressive seven wickets in six matches, maintaining a miserly economy rate of 6.50.

This Asia Cup title marked Chakravarthy`s second significant trophy for India this year, as he had also been a crucial contributor to their Champions Trophy 2025 triumph.
