Dhruv Jurel’s ‘Guard Of Honour’ Tribute After Maiden Test Ton

Cricket News

Indian wicket-keeper batter Dhruv Jurel marked his maiden Test century with a unique and heartfelt celebration. Displaying tremendous form, Jurel scored an impressive 125 runs on Day 2 of the first Test match against West Indies in Ahmedabad. His crucial partnership with Ravindra Jadeja propelled India to a commanding total of 448/5, establishing a substantial 286-run lead by stumps. After reaching his century, Jurel performed a `guard of honour` march using his bat, dedicating this special tribute to the Indian Army and his father, Nem Chand, a retired veteran who fought in the 1999 Kargil war.

Jurel explicitly dedicated his century to the Indian Army, expressing profound respect for the armed forces. He clarified that his signature `salute` celebration after scoring a half-century was for his father, while the one after his hundred was also dedicated to the Indian Army.

“The salute after reaching my fifty was for my father, but for the hundred, it was something that I had in my mind for a very long time because I have been so close to the Indian Army, I`ve seen my father since my childhood,” Jurel stated.

He further elaborated on his reverence for the soldiers, acknowledging their immense sacrifices.

“What we do on the ground and what they do on the battlefield is very difficult and you cannot compare that. I will always have my respect, and whatever I will do in the future will be for them.”

Jurel reiterated his dedication, recognizing the selfless service of the armed forces.

“I want to dedicate this to them (Indian Army) for what they do. I have seen them closely, how it is like, and I remain very fascinated by those things. I also used to keep asking my father. I will dedicate it to those who deserve,” he added.

India demonstrated formidable batting strength, with Jurel`s century anchoring a dominant performance that placed the team in complete control by the end of Day 2.
