EuroBasket 2025: Germany and Turkey Battle for the Championship Crown

The champion of the EuroBasket 2025 tournament will be decided this Sunday, as Germany and Turkey face off for the coveted title. This edition of the tournament has been a showcase of remarkable basketball talent, with several NBA stars captivating audiences. The final promises an exciting matchup featuring the Magic`s Franz Wagner representing Germany, going head-to-head with the Rockets` Alperen Sengun, who plays for Turkey.

However, some of the tournament’s biggest names exited the competition earlier than expected. Nikola Jokić and pre-tournament favorites Serbia were surprisingly eliminated by Lauri Markkanen’s Finland in the Round of 16. Luka Dončić led Slovenia to the quarterfinals, but a strong fourth-quarter performance by Germany secured their advancement, sending the Lakers star home. Giannis Antetokounmpo and Greece also saw their journey end after a loss to Turkey in the semifinals on Friday.

The thrilling knockout stage of the tournament took place in Riga, Latvia.

Tournament Format

EuroBasket 2025 commenced with a group stage, which concluded on September 4th. This initial phase consisted of four groups, each comprising six teams. Teams competed in a round-robin format, playing every other team in their respective group once. The top four teams from each group then advanced to the subsequent knockout phase.
