EuroBasket 2025 Guide: Live Streams, Schedule, Scores, and Tournament Format

NBA News

The EuroBasket 2025 tournament commenced on Wednesday, bringing together 24 teams, including numerous NBA luminaries, all vying for the title of men`s European basketball champions. Matches are scheduled across four host nations: Cyprus, Finland, Poland, and Latvia. The crucial knockout phase, which includes the bronze medal and championship games, is set to take place in Riga, Latvia, in September. Spain, the reigning champions, will endeavor to retain their title, having defeated France in the 2022 final.

EuroBasket 2025 boasts an impressive roster of talent. Slovenia will see Luka Dončić represent his homeland, while three-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokić guides Serbia, widely considered the tournament favorites. Giannis Antetokounmpo is also back with the Greek national team. Other notable NBA players include Latvia`s Kristaps Porziņģis, Franz Wagner, who contributed to Germany`s bronze medal win in 2022, and a promising French contingent featuring Zaccharie Risacher, Alexandre Sarr, and Bilal Coulibaly. Notably absent will be France`s Victor Wembanyama, whose NBA season concluded early in February due to a blood clot, preventing his participation in EuroBasket.

As the tournament unfolds, here`s an essential guide to everything you need to know:

Tournament Format

The competition commences with a group stage, comprising four groups, each with six teams. This phase operates on a round-robin basis, meaning every team will compete against all other teams within its group once. Teams are awarded two points for a victory and one point for a defeat. Upon completion of the group stage, the top four teams from each group will progress to the knockout stage. In the event of a points tie between two teams, their head-to-head record will serve as the primary tiebreaker. Should a further tie persist, point differential will be used, followed by total points scored, if still required.
