EuroBasket 2025: Knockout Stage Begins, Spain Eliminated as Star Power Shines

The EuroBasket 2025 tournament has advanced to its intense knockout phase, featuring 16 national teams and numerous NBA talents vying for the European men`s basketball championship title. A new champion is guaranteed this year, as Spain, the triumphant squad of 2022, faced an early exit during the group stage.

All games for the knockout stage, culminating in the third-place match and the grand championship final, are scheduled to take place in Riga, Latvia.

This year`s EuroBasket is brimming with elite talent. Slovenian superstar Luka Dončić is representing his nation, while three-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokić captains Serbia, widely considered the tournament`s top contender. Giannis Antetokounmpo is also back with Greece. Other notable NBA players include Latvia`s Kristaps Porziņģis, Franz Wagner, who contributed to Germany`s bronze in 2022, and France`s exciting young prospects Zaccharie Risacher and Bilal Coulibaly. However, French sensation Victor Wembanyama will not be joining due to his NBA season being cut short by a blood clot in February.

As the competition progresses, here`s a comprehensive overview of the tournament details:

Tournament Structure

The tournament commenced with a group stage involving four groups, each comprising six teams. Concluding on September 4th, this phase followed a round-robin format, ensuring every team played against all others within its group once. The top four teams from each group earned their spot in the subsequent knockout phase.
