Pakistani fast bowler Haris Rauf has once again drawn criticism after a video of his aggressive wicket celebration against India`s Abhishek Sharma in the Asia Cup 2025 final went viral. This incident occurred just days after the 31-year-old had been fined by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for a similar celebratory outburst during a Super Four match against India. Despite the prior penalty, Rauf was observed repeating the contentious gesture after catching Abhishek Sharma off Faheem Ashraf`s bowling early in India`s 147-run chase. The footage widely shared online clearly shows Rauf making the identical controversial sign.
The cricketing community now awaits to see if further sanctions will be imposed on Rauf for this repeat offense.
ICC Sanctions and BCCI Complaint
Previously, on Friday, Rauf faced a 30 per cent fine of his match fees for his initial aggressive celebration. His teammate, Sahibzada Farhan, also involved in a controversial celebration, received a warning but no financial penalty. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had formally lodged a complaint with the ICC and match referee Andy Pycroft regarding the conduct of both players.
Bumrah`s Response and India`s Triumph
Adding to the drama during the Asia Cup final, Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah delivered a pointed send-off to Rauf after clean bowling him. Bumrah mimicked a flight-landing gesture after dislodging Rauf`s middle stump, a clear response to the earlier controversies.
Ultimately, India emerged victorious, overcoming Pakistan by five wickets to claim the Asia Cup title.
Key Performances in India`s Victory
Following an early collapse of India`s top order, left-handed batsman Tilak Varma rose to the occasion, steering his team through immense pressure with an unbeaten 69 runs.
On a challenging two-paced pitch, Kuldeep Yadav spearheaded India`s remarkable turnaround. He secured four crucial wickets, including three in a decisive 17th over, which triggered Pakistan`s collapse from a strong position of 113/1 to being bowled out for 146 in just 19.1 overs. They lost their last nine wickets for a mere 33 runs.
The effective trio of Kuldeep, Axar Patel, and Varun Chakaravarthy wreaked havoc, collectively taking eight wickets. Pakistan`s downfall was largely attributed to reckless aerial shots. Kuldeep, who initially conceded 23 runs in his first two overs, bounced back spectacularly, taking four wickets for only seven runs in his subsequent two overs. He was well-supported by Axar Patel, Varun Chakaravarthy, and Jasprit Bumrah, each claiming two wickets.
With India struggling at 20/3, Tilak Varma delivered a poised and precise innings under pressure. His memorable knock, featuring three fours and four sixes, anchored the chase. While other batsmen faltered, Varma showcased exceptional timing and temperament, leading India to victory.
