Weight loss requires a person to overhaul more than one aspect of their lifestyle. Maintaining a healthy diet and doing regular exercise both play a key role in losing weight. In relation to diet, evidence supports a plant-based and low-carb diet to aid weight loss. In terms of exercise, health bodies suggest doing at least 150 minutes of aerobic exercise a week to keep weight gain at bay.

Meratrim is a combination of two plant extracts – Sphaeranthus indicus and Garcinia mangostana – that may alter the metabolism of fat cells.
Evidence suggests it makes it harder for fat cells to multiply, decrease the amount of fat that they pick up from the bloodstream, and help them burn stored fat.
One study supports its effectiveness. A total of 100 obese people were placed on a strict 2000 calorie diet, with either Meratrim or a dummy pill.
After eight weeks, the Meratrim group had lost 11 pounds (5.2 kg) of weight and 4.7 inches (11.9 cm) off their waistlines. They also had improved quality of life and reduced blood sugar, cholesterol and triglycerides.
No studies have reported any side effects when Meratrim is taken at the recommended dose of 800 mg per day, divided into two doses.
Glucomannan is a type of fibre found in the roots of the elephant yam, also called konjac.
According to the Journal of Nutrition, glucomannan absorbs water and becomes gel-like. It “sits” in a person’s gut and promotes a feeling of fullness, helping them eat fewer calories.
Three human studies showed that glucomannan, combined with a healthy diet, can help people lose 8-10 pounds (3.6-4.5 kg) of weight in five weeks.
In addition to weight loss, studies have show it also lowers blood sugar, blood cholesterol and triglycerides and may aid constipation.
According to Holland and Barrett, a dose of around 2g to 4g per day has been used safely in studies, but always read the packaging or food label first.
Green coffee extract
Green tea extract has also been proven to aide weight loss. Numerous Studies point to the main antioxidant in it, EGCG, as encouraging fat burning and fat loss, especially in the belly area.
Holland and Barrett recommends taking one tablet daily, preferably with a meal.
