Joe Rogan Reveals Brendan Schaub’s Frequent Training KOs as He Explains Infamous Intervention

Sports News

Joe Rogan has offered fresh insights, shedding light on what stands as perhaps the most renowned “intervention” in podcasting history. Former UFC heavyweight contender Brendan Schaub believed he could “surprise” Cain Velasquez, until the celebrated podcaster steered him towards retirement with a stark dose of reality in December 2014.

Footage of Joe Rogan delivering difficult truths to his friend continues to circulate widely even 11 years later. The long-serving UFC commentator has finally elaborated on why he was so determined for Brendan Schaub to exit the world of MMA.

Joe Rogan Explains His Intervention in Brendan Schaub`s Career

Brendan Schaub had just suffered a first-round knockout loss to Travis Browne at UFC 181. This marked “Big Brown`s” fourth KO defeat in his professional MMA career (10 wins, 5 losses). As if that wasn`t concerning enough, Joe Rogan asserts that his friend was getting “constantly” knocked out during training sessions. Former interim heavyweight champion Shane Carwin served as Schaub`s primary sparring partner for years, making it highly probable that Rogan`s claims about Schaub`s history of concussions are accurate.

“For me, the hardest one was Schaub, because Schaub didn’t want to quit,” Rogan recounted on a recent episode of his podcast. “The thing about Brendan, people don’t know, is how many concussions he took outside of the fights. You see the fights, but he used to spar with Shane Carwin, man… Brendan Schaub and him used to spar all the time, and he would get knocked out all the time. He would get concussions all the time. He got a concussion days before he fought Ben Rothwell, he got a concussion days before he fought [Minotauro] Nogueira. Like, he was getting concussions all the time in the gym.”

“So, I knew about all that s—, too, and I was seeing the effects. I was like, ‘You’ve got to get out now! If you don’t get out now, there’s no happy ending.’ There’s no happy ending for the guy that gets knocked out a lot. It’s terrible.”

Joe Rogan Reflects Tearfully on Daniel Cormier

Joe Rogan`s comments regarding Brendan Schaub followed his reflections on Daniel Cormier`s career. The two have been friends and colleagues for many years, making it particularly difficult for Rogan to witness “DC`s” losses in the UFC. Rogan became emotional, recalling Cormier`s knockout defeats against Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic.

“It’s real hard when you watch your friends get beat up,” he stated. “Real hard. It was real hard watching Cormier when Jones beat him up. That was hard. The Stipe one was hard, especially the one where Stipe KO’d him against the cage. It’s just hard.”

“Because you know them. You know them as human beings. You know what that’s going to do to them. It’s f—— devastating. It’s like a loss. It’s like you lost a family member or you lost a dog. It’s hard. I start crying.”
