Jonathan Kuminga Finalizes Two-Year Deal with Golden State Warriors

NBA News

Contract Resolution and Terms

The prolonged contract negotiations surrounding Jonathan Kuminga have reached their conclusion. Kuminga has reportedly agreed to a two-year, $48.5 million contract to rejoin the Golden State Warriors, opting for this new deal over the $7.9 million qualifying offer, as reported by ESPN`s Shams Charania on Tuesday. The agreement includes a team option for the second year.

ESPN also indicated that the Warriors had previously proposed a three-year, $75.2 million contract with a team option for the last year, an improvement upon their initial two-year, $45 million offer.

Interest from Other Teams

During the opening of free agency in July, both the Sacramento Kings and the Phoenix Suns reportedly showed interest in Kuminga through potential sign-and-trade arrangements. ESPN specifically noted that the Kings aggressively pursued Kuminga, proposing a trade package that included Malik Monk and a first-round draft pick.

Kuminga`s Performance and Injury

Last season, Kuminga participated in 47 games, recording averages of 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.2 assists. He was sidelined for 31 games due to an ankle sprain sustained mid-season. His most impressive statistical performance occurred in the 2023-24 season, where he averaged 16.1 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.2 assists over 74 games.

Warriors` Roster Developments

With Kuminga`s contract now finalized, the Warriors can concentrate on completing their roster. Several free agents, including Al Horford, De`Anthony Melton, and Seth Curry (brother of Warriors` star Stephen Curry), have been associated with Golden State. Notably, Horford, Melton, and Gary Payton II had already committed to the Warriors prior to the resolution of Kuminga`s contract.

The Warriors are scheduled to begin their season on October 21st, facing the Los Angeles Lakers.
