Josh Giddey Secures Four-Year, $100 Million Deal with Bulls

NBA News

Following extensive offseason negotiations, star guard Josh Giddey has reached an agreement with the Chicago Bulls on a four-year, $100 million contract extension. This significant development was first reported by Shams Charania of ESPN. Giddey had been playing as a restricted free agent.

A Season of Milestones and Records

This new contract acknowledges the outstanding season Giddey recently concluded. He averaged an impressive 14.6 points per game, while also setting new career-highs in several key statistical categories, including rebounds (8.1), assists (7.2), steals (1.2), and a commendable 37.8% shooting percentage from beyond the arc.

The Bulls` talented point guard has earned his place in an elite group, becoming one of just eight players in NBA history to average at least 14 points, seven rebounds, and six assists in a single season. This exclusive club, alongside Giddey, boasts legendary names such as Oscar Robertson, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, LeBron James, Russell Westbrook, Nikola Jokic, and Luka Doncic.

Furthermore, Giddey secured the second-most triple-doubles (seven) in Bulls franchise history for a single season, a testament to his all-around game. He trailed only the iconic Michael Jordan, who recorded 15 triple-doubles during the 1988-89 season.

Resilience and Future Potential

Towards the end of the 2024-25 season, Giddey demonstrated particularly strong play, showcasing remarkable resilience. During this period, he averaged an impressive 20.2 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 8.1 assists, while maintaining a superb 45% shooting from three-point range. This stellar performance was even more notable considering he played the final month of the season with a muscle tear in the palm of his right hand.

Josh Giddey, initially acquired by the Bulls in a trade with the Oklahoma City Thunder for Alex Caruso, has now officially cemented his role as the team`s pivotal point guard for the foreseeable future. The Thunder originally selected him with the sixth overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. Giddey also holds the distinction of being the youngest player in NBA history to achieve a triple-double, a feat he accomplished in 2022 while with the Thunder, posting 17 points, 14 assists, and 13 rebounds at just 19 years and 84 days old.
