Brazilian mixed martial arts fans expressed their discontent with the results at UFC Rio. The Ultimate Fighting Championship had returned to Brazil, presenting a 12-fight card prominently featuring beloved former UFC Lightweight Champion Charles Oliveira and Mateusz Gamrot in the main event.
The undercard showcased several decisive finishes. Notably, former UFC title challenger Karolina Kowalkiewicz endured a third-round TKO loss following a powerful head kick. Additionally, a visibly fatigued Vitor Petrino secured a late TKO victory, spectacularly knocking out his opponent Thomas Petersen.
On the main card, `Genghis` Kaan Ofli impressively defeated a submission specialist at their own game. His post-fight reaction immediately drew attention as he confronted the booing crowd.

Kaan Ofli`s Defiant Post-Fight Reaction at UFC Rio
Following an 0-2 start to his UFC career, Ofli was matched against seasoned UFC veteran Ricardo Ramos. Early in the opening round, Ramos nearly secured a heel hook submission, but Ofli demonstrated resilience, defending stoutly and escaping the dangerous attempts.
Ofli persevered, eventually gaining a standing backpack position on Ramos. From this dominant position, he locked in a rear-naked choke, forcing the Brazilian to tap out just three minutes into the fight, much to the dismay of the home crowd.
Met with a chorus of boos from the audience, Ofli responded defiantly during his post-fight interview, telling them to “shut up.”
“Hey, shut up,” Ofli declared into the microphone. “Shut up. I`m talking.
Hey, look. I just want to say, Brazil. Hey, Brazil, I love you guys. Give me a second. Listen, I want to dedicate this to my family: Isa, Mariam, I love you guys. I’ll be home soon with the cash, baby. Let`s go.”
Commenting on Ramos`s initial offensive, Ofli emphasized his preparedness for challenges: “If there`s anyone prepared for adversity, it`s me.”
He elaborated on his strategy, stating, “I knew I just had to keep attacking, and I knew I`d get the finish. Round one, round two, round three, I knew it was going to come sooner or later.”
Regarding the persistent booing from the Brazilian crowd, Ofli candidly remarked, “Man, I really want to swear at you guys.”
Kaan Ofli`s Inspiring Journey from Homelessness to UFC Success
Long before achieving his first UFC victory, Australia`s Kaan Ofli faced significant hardship, including a period of homelessness.
On `The Ultimate Fighter 32`, Ofli openly discussed his challenging upbringing: “From living in our car to living in a church and government housing, public housing—we struggled to go to school because we couldn`t afford it.”
Addressing his past homelessness, Ofli shared, “It is my life and it is my story.” He emphasized, “If I don`t tell my story, then I`ll be presenting a false narrative. But now that I`ve shared it, I don`t feel the need to discuss it further, as the essence of the story is that I`ve overcome it.”
Ofli expressed his motivation for sharing his journey: “It`s more for people to see and realize, `wow, someone who`s faced so many difficulties in life can still achieve something.` You can still do something amazing with your life and avoid going down the wrong path.”
He concluded, prior to his inaugural UFC victory, “So, I wanted to talk about it because I want to inspire people. But I don`t need to keep talking about it because I want to start talking about the cool stuff I`m doing.”
