Veteran guard Malcolm Brogdon has reportedly agreed to a one-year, non-guaranteed contract with the New York Knicks, as confirmed by his agent Sam Permut to ESPN on Friday. The 32-year-old, entering his tenth NBA season, is expected to bolster the Knicks` backcourt depth and playmaking from the bench, playing under new head coach Mike Brown.
Brogdon`s previous season with the Washington Wizards was hampered by limited appearances, playing only 24 games and averaging 12.7 points, 4.1 assists, and 3.8 rebounds. While his three-point shooting dipped to 29% last year, he has demonstrated strong perimeter efficiency in prior seasons, connecting on 43% of his deep attempts between 2022 and 2024.
Brogdon`s career began when the Milwaukee Bucks drafted him 36th overall in 2016, earning him Rookie of the Year honors. After three seasons in Milwaukee, he moved to the Indiana Pacers via a sign-and-trade, where he spent another three seasons developing into a consistent two-way guard known for both scoring and defense. His peak scoring average was 21.2 points per game during the 2020-21 season.
He later joined the Boston Celtics for the 2022-23 season, where he excelled in a bench role that earned him the Sixth Man of the Year award. This achievement made him one of only two players in NBA history, alongside Mike Miller, to win both Rookie of the Year and Sixth Man honors. Before his recent stint with the Wizards, he also played one season with the Portland Trail Blazers.
In other roster news, the Knicks also re-signed Landry Shamet to a one-year deal, finalizing their roster before training camp. The team is looking to build on their recent success, having reached the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 2000. Following their six-game loss to the Indiana Pacers, the Knicks parted ways with coach Tom Thibodeau after five seasons, appointing Mike Brown, formerly with the Cavaliers, Lakers, and Kings, as his successor.
