Mohsin Naqvi Lacks Knowledge, Pakistan Army Decides Everything: India’s World Cup Winner Claims

Cricket News

Former Indian cricketer Madan Lal, a revered member of the 1983 World Cup-winning team, has issued a sharp critique of Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chief Mohsin Naqvi. Naqvi has come under intense scrutiny for his controversial decision to remove the Asia Cup winner`s trophy following India`s memorable victory over Pakistan in the final match. Citing Naqvi`s perceived anti-India stance, the Indian team, led by Suryakumar Yadav, reportedly declined to accept the trophy directly from him. Naqvi, who also serves as Pakistan`s Interior Minister and Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), spoke to India Today where Madan Lal firmly asserted that Naqvi`s actions have detrimental effects, damaging both his personal reputation and the broader cricketing heritage of Pakistan.

“Such incidents should be avoided. The moment when players lift the trophy before enthusiastic fans and on live television is when it truly makes an impact,” Madan Lal stated.

Commenting on Naqvi`s departure from the stadium with the trophy, the 74-year-old veteran characterized his behavior as immature. He further suggested that such an act could only be performed by someone profoundly unfamiliar with the sport`s traditions and decorum.

He elaborated, “Mohsin Naqvi exhibits a profound lack of knowledge regarding the sport, its conduct, and appropriate behavior. With many Indian team members present on the dais, he should have assigned another individual to present the trophy. His actions, as the PCB chief, have significantly harmed his own standing and that of his country`s cricketing image.”

Madan Lal also underscored his conviction that all significant matters concerning Pakistan, including its cricketing affairs, are ultimately dictated and controlled by the nation`s armed forces.

Madan Lal concluded by questioning, “Why should Suryakumar Yadav be compelled to visit the Asian Cricket Council office for the trophy? India earned the victory and deserved to celebrate with the trophy on the field. However, it`s clear he lacks understanding, and in their nation, every decision is dictated by the military.”

It was further reported that Naqvi had previously communicated to BCCI officials during an ACC meeting his willingness to present the trophy to the Indian team, but only on the strict condition that they accept it directly from him.
