“Not Good Attitude, Just Showboating”: 1983 World Cup-Winner Rips Into India Star

Cricket News

Indian fast bowler Harshit Rana faced significant criticism after his poor performance against Sri Lanka in an Asia Cup 2025 Super Four match in Dubai on Friday. Conceding 54 runs for just one wicket in his four overs, he was easily targeted by the Sri Lankan batsmen. Rana`s inclusion over more experienced bowlers was already questioned, and his display on Friday intensified the scrutiny.

Krishnamachari Srikkanth, a member of India`s 1983 World Cup-winning team and former opening batsman, strongly criticized Rana`s performance and attitude. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Srikkanth reportedly stated that Rana`s conduct was “not good.”

“Harshit Rana engages in too many theatrical displays. These exaggerated reactions are pointless; the focus should be on bowling effectively. He exhibits similar `filmy` reactions in the IPL too. This isn`t a good attitude; it`s merely showboating. Aggression is one thing, but excessive showboating at a young age is why he struggled today.”

Srikkanth further added:

“India`s victory was largely due to the four crucial overs bowled by Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakravarthy in the middle innings. Their spin bowling was exceptional, reaffirming that wrist-spinners are often match-winners. Sri Lanka, however, highlighted some weaknesses in the Indian bowling attack. Axar Patel, for instance, can be vulnerable when there isn`t any turn on the pitch.”

Reflecting on the India vs. Sri Lanka game, Sri Lanka mounted a strong challenge, revitalizing what seemed to be a routine Super Four match. Nevertheless, Suryakumar Yadav`s team ultimately maintained their dominance, extending their Asia Cup 2025 winning streak to six games.

After being asked to bat first, India posted a formidable 202 for 5 in 20 overs, appearing to be in control. Their hold on the game strengthened early in Sri Lanka`s chase when Hardik Pandya dismissed Kusal Mendis on the fourth ball. However, the Sri Lankans had a surprising comeback planned.

Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Perera then forged an astonishing 127-run partnership off just 70 balls for the second wicket, leaving India stunned. Perera contributed 58 runs before his dismissal, while Nissanka went on to score a brilliant century from just 52 balls, finishing with 107 runs off 58 deliveries. Despite this onslaught, India battled hard, pushing the match to a Super Over, where they ultimately secured a comfortable victory.
