You can see in the Video: British researchers are training dogs to smell Covid-19-Infected.
It sounds like an absurd Experiment: British researchers are training dogs to smell Covid-19-Infected. However, past studies show that the dogs actually have a good nose for it.
Dogs can make good use of drugs, money and food to locate – but also diseases.
The animals of “Medical Detection Dogs” can distinguish between different types of cancer, and also people who are infected with Malaria, to identify.
Professor Dr. James Logan, head of the Department of disease control at the London School of Hygiene and tropical medicine:
“In this study, we want to track to find out whether Covid-19-Infected have a special body odor, and then dogs to train them. We are very grateful that the British government is supporting our research. It builds on years of Research that we have done with Malaria patients. We were able to show that dogs can be trained to identify the smell of Malaria-Infected, with higher accuracy. If we have Covid-19 success, it could revolutionize the fight against the disease.“
The researchers want to collect this odor specimens from people with and without the pathogen. The participants are required to wear for several hours masks and nylon socks.
Dr. Steve Lindsay, a biology Professor at Durham University:
“Dogs are fantastic animals with exceptional sense of smell, maybe 10,000 times better than we humans. And people already have a pretty good sense of smell.”
“While we fight against this pandemic and the Infection rates to fall, it will be one of the most important things to prevent imported infections. To the economy a boost, we need to open the airports again. We believe that dogs could play a big role here, if we can prove that they can distinguish between infected and healthy people with high accuracy.”
The idea is that we can check passengers, the towing ignorant Covid-19 to country, and isolate. It is an important project, not only for Britain but for many countries in the world.”
In any case, the Experiment gives the saying “man’s best friend” a new meaning.
