Quentin Grimes Accepts Qualifying Offer, Returns to Philadelphia 76ers

NBA News

After a prolonged period of restricted free agency, Quentin Grimes has reportedly signed his qualifying offer, paving the way for his return to the Philadelphia 76ers. According to Shams Charania of ESPN, Grimes will rejoin the team on a one-year, $8.7 million contract, which will grant him unrestricted free agent status next summer.

Grimes was among several prominent restricted free agents from his class who delayed signing a new deal, waiting weeks after the official start of free agency this summer before committing to their teams. The 25-year-old guard joined the 76ers at last season`s trade deadline, arriving from the Dallas Mavericks in a trade that sent veteran Caleb Martin and a 2025 second-round pick to Dallas.

During his 28 appearances with the 76ers, Grimes achieved career-high averages of 21.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.5 assists.

Earlier, Brooklyn Nets guard Cam Thomas also opted for a qualifying offer instead of a multi-year contract. Thomas reportedly accepted a one-year, $6 million deal, despite being offered a two-year, $30 million contract with a team option for the second year.

In other contract news, Chicago Bulls guard Josh Giddey secured a four-year, $100 million contract extension this month. Meanwhile, Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga chose a short-term agreement to stay with his team rather than signing a qualifying offer.

The 76ers are scheduled to commence their 2025-26 season on October 22, facing the Boston Celtics.
