Scoot Henderson Sidelined with Hamstring Tear, Expected to Miss 4-8 Weeks

NBA News

Portland Trail Blazers` promising guard, Scoot Henderson, is facing a significant recovery period after the team confirmed on Friday that he sustained a left hamstring tear during an offseason workout. This injury is expected to sideline him for an estimated four to eight weeks, during which he will undergo dedicated rehabilitation. The team stated that updates on his return to basketball activities will be provided as his recovery progresses.

Henderson, the third overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, completed his most recent season averaging 12.7 points, 5.1 assists, and 3.0 rebounds. The 21-year-old participated in 66 games during the 2024-25 campaign, starting 10 of them, which marked a decrease from his 32 starts in his rookie year.

The 22-year-old Henderson was widely anticipated to make significant strides this upcoming season, even with a competitive backcourt lineup in Portland featuring veteran Jrue Holiday, who was acquired in an earlier offseason trade involving Anfernee Simons, and promising young talent Shaedon Sharpe.

Further complicating the Blazers` season outlook, Damian Lillard, who recently inked a three-year, $42 million contract with the franchise where he spent his initial 11 career seasons, is projected to sit out the entire 2025-26 season. Lillard`s absence is due to a torn Achilles tendon he sustained during the first round of the NBA playoffs against the Indiana Pacers.

Henderson`s absence, potentially impacting the start of the season, suggests that Holiday will likely step into the starting point guard role alongside Sharpe in the backcourt. This situation poses additional challenges for a team looking to improve their standing. Betting odds currently place Portland at +410 to secure a playoff spot this season.

The Trail Blazers have unfortunately not reached the playoffs for the past four consecutive seasons, adding pressure for a turnaround in the upcoming campaign amidst these significant player injuries.
