Following his heroic performance in the Asia Cup 2025 final, Indian cricketer Tilak Varma was greeted with an enthusiastic welcome by fans upon his arrival at Hyderabad`s Shamshabad Airport on Monday. The left-handed batsman, whose unbeaten 69 runs secured India`s record ninth Asia Cup title against Pakistan, returned to his hometown amidst much fanfare. He was also honored by Telangana Sports Authority Chairman Shivsena Reddy and Managing Director Soni Bala Devi. A large crowd surrounded his car, loudly cheering his name in appreciation as he departed.
A viral video captured Varma waving to his supporters through the car`s sunroof, acknowledging their adulation and the overwhelming reception.
Brother Expresses Pride in Tilak`s Match-Winning Knock
Tilak`s elder brother, Tarun Varma, shared his excitement with reporters at the airport, celebrating his brother`s decisive innings. Tarun expressed immense pride in Tilak`s ability to perform under pressure.
“He played incredibly well, and I couldn`t be happier with his performance,” Tarun stated. “It`s tough to perform under such pressure in a final, but he delivered. Watching him bat, I felt immense pride. He faced some pressure, but he assured us he could manage it. We are all incredibly happy and proud of him.”
Responding to Opposition with the Bat
During the tense run-chase, Pakistani players attempted to unsettle Tilak Varma as he arrived at the crease. However, their verbal provocations only served to fuel the Indian batsman, inspiring him to play one of his most crucial innings to date. India was in a difficult spot, having lost early wickets. Despite the intense rivalry and the constant chatter from the opposition, Tilak maintained his composure, demonstrating exceptional batting skill under extreme pressure.
Reflecting on the match, Tilak shared his mindset in a conversation with teammate Shivam Dube:
“I preferred to let my bat do the talking,” Tilak recounted. “They had a lot to say, and my only goal was to answer with my performance. By the end, they were nowhere to be found on the field.”
His vital 60-run partnership with Shivam Dube was instrumental in India`s Asia Cup victory, achieved with just two balls remaining. Tilak Varma finished the innings unbeaten on 69 runs from 53 deliveries, solidifying his status as a key player for the team.
