Tyler Herro Undergoes Foot Surgery, Miami Heat Star Out Until At Least November

NBA News

Miami Heat`s guard, Tyler Herro, successfully underwent surgery on his left ankle on Friday, sidelining him for the beginning of the 2025-26 season. The Heat confirmed an eight-week recovery period, meaning Herro won`t return to play until at least mid-November.

The Miami Herald reported that the 25-year-old Herro experienced left ankle discomfort during offseason workouts. Despite receiving platelet-rich plasma and cortisone injections in an attempt to prevent surgery ahead of training camp on September 30, the persistent discomfort ultimately led to the decision for surgical intervention.

Last season marked career bests for Herro, who averaged 23.9 points and 5.5 assists, with an impressive 47.2% field goal percentage. As the Heat`s leading scorer, he also shot 37.5% from three-point range and earned his inaugural All-Star selection. Herro is due to earn $31 million this season and will be eligible for a contract extension starting October 1.

As Herro prepares to miss the beginning of his seventh NBA season, the Heat will lean on veteran guard Norman Powell, who is expected to step into Herro`s starting role, alongside key players like Bam Adebayo, Andrew Wiggins, and Kel`el Ware. Powell, acquired in a summer three-team trade involving the Los Angeles Clippers and Utah Jazz, is known for his perimeter shooting prowess, having hit 41.8% from long range last season, marking his third season in four years achieving at least 40% from beyond the arc.

The Heat faced a first-round exit from the NBA playoffs for the second straight season, falling to the Cleveland Cavaliers in four games. Their upcoming season is scheduled to commence on October 22 against the Orlando Magic.
