UFC Vancouver: Middleweight Main Event, Schedule, and Full Card

Sports News

The Octagon is once again set to grace `The Great White North` this weekend, bringing with it a pivotal middleweight clash at UFC Vancouver.

Scheduled for October 18, surging divisional star Reinier de Ridder makes a rapid turnaround from his recent victory to take on a short-notice pairing. Originally booked against Anthony Hernandez, the Dutch standout will now face seasoned contender Brendan Allen in the main event showdown.

Fan-favorite welterweight Kevin Holland is also slated to compete, looking to disrupt the hometown crowd as he stays active with a co-headliner opposite Ontario`s own Mike Malott.

A former title challenger will also feature prominently on the main card, aiming to overcome another local favorite in pursuit of his own opportunity to vie for bantamweight gold.

This event marks the UFC`s second trip to Canada this year. Let`s delve deeper into what UFC Vancouver has to offer.

Reinier de Ridder Touted as a Major Threat to Khamzat Chimaev

Former two-division ONE Championship kingpin, Reinier de Ridder, has made an impressive start to his Octagon tenure, accumulating a series of eye-catching victories.

Prior to this weekend`s clash, de Ridder notably submitted Kevin Holland and recently halted the surge of former champion Robert Whittaker in a high-profile summer headliner in Abu Dhabi.

Considered a significant star at 185 lbs, de Ridder has already been identified as a potential future challenger to the undefeated Khamzat Chimaev, ever since Chimaev`s ascent to the title against Dricus du Plessis in August.

According to former welterweight title contender Gilbert Burns, de Ridder likely possesses the best chance among his divisional peers to unseat Chimaev from his title reign.

“I think from the whole division, I think he’s (de Ridder) the one that has more chance,” Burns commented on the Buiten De Kooi MMA podcast. “I was talking to Chimaev’s coach, jiu-jitsu coach, we fought before, and I asked, ‘Who do you think is the hardest fight?’

“I said I think it’s RDR, and then he said, ‘Me too.’ I have all of RDR’s videos. I watched everything already. It’s not an easy fight. He needs to beat one more guy.”
