MMA icon Wanderlei Silva is reportedly experiencing severe sleep difficulties following a brutal knockout incident that occurred during a chaotic post-fight brawl. The UFC Hall of Famer had recently ended a seven-year hiatus from competition, a break he initiated after a knockout loss to Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson at Bellator 206 in September 2018.
Silva made his return in an exhibition bout against two-time former world boxing champion Acelino Freitas at Spaten Fight Night 2, held in São Paulo, Brazil, on Saturday evening. The event escalated into widespread chaos after ‘The Axe Murderer’ was disqualified in the fourth round for repeatedly using headbutts against his opponent during their boxing match.

Wanderlei Silva`s Urgent 3:30 AM Health Revelation
Silva was left unconscious after his highly anticipated comeback devolved into a violent post-fight melee. On Sunday, the 49-year-old mixed martial arts legend spoke out about the brutal knockout he sustained, an incident that has reverberated throughout the combat sports community.
Silva initially reported a persistent headache and later provided a further update at 3:30 AM via his Instagram story.
“Yeah, my situation really isn’t good,” Silva stated, pointing out his eye. “It’s half past three in the morning now. I can’t sleep because my head is throbbing too much. And tomorrow, not tomorrow, in a little while, right? I’ll have to go to the hospital for some more tests.”
Identifying Wanderlei Silva`s Assailant
The identity of the individual who delivered the knockout punch to Wanderlei Silva at Spaten Fight Night 2 was initially unknown. Early fan videos captured a person, dressed in a tuxedo, landing a powerful blow that rendered Silva unconscious. The individual responsible for knocking out Silva during the post-fight commotion was later identified as additional footage from the scene became available.
Reports from Combate confirm that Rafael Freitas, the son of Silva`s opponent and an individual with a boxing background, was the person who delivered the knockout blow in the brawl. Following the incident, Rafael deleted his Instagram account. He was reportedly identified not only as a recognizable figure in the footage but also by his brother, Juan Freitas, who tagged him in a now-removed Instagram story during the event.
Juan Freitas had captioned his post, in Portuguese, with words to the effect of: “When you’re going to talk about my brother, speak softly. Congratulations, Rafa!” This post was subsequently deleted. While Silva`s opponent has issued an apology for the overall post-fight chaos, he has not publicly confirmed that his son was responsible for the widely circulated knockout punch.
