West Indies Need To Produce A Bit More Wicket-Taking Deliveries: Floyd Reifer | Cricket News

Cricket News

West Indies batting coach Floyd Reifer conceded that the opening day of the second Test against India presented a significant challenge for their bowling attack. Nevertheless, he viewed this as a crucial learning experience, particularly in mastering prolonged bowling spells under demanding subcontinental conditions. India concluded the first day`s play at 318 for 2, largely due to exceptional innings from Yashasvi Jaiswal, who remained unbeaten on 173, and Sai Sudharsan, who scored 87. Reifer praised Jaiswal`s superb batting performance, acknowledging it was a “tough day at the office for everyone.” The former West Indies Test captain also highlighted that the young Jayden Seales, leading the bowling unit, performed remarkably well throughout the 90 overs on what was a favorable batting pitch.

Reifer emphasized the importance of this experience for his bowlers:

“This is a chance for all bowlers to truly master the art of bowling for long durations. I believe the guys held their own well today, maintaining control over the accuracy of their deliveries.”

He added that it represents “another opportunity for them to return tomorrow and try to play better.”

Regarding the pitch, while KL Rahul was dismissed by an unusually spinning delivery, Reifer mentioned that some turn on the first day was within expectations. He elaborated on the team`s needs:

“One or two balls spun today. In fact, on day one of the pitch, he didn`t expect much spin. Probably, by day three or so, the pitch will start to turn more significantly. But yes, we need to produce a bit more wicket-taking deliveries.”

He spoke highly of Seales` performance, suggesting he bowled excellently and could have achieved more if Alzarri Joseph and Shamar Joseph had not sustained injuries.

Concluding his remarks, Reifer noted that this tour is vital for the young talent: “This is Jayden`s first trip to India, and he will obviously learn a great deal bowling against strong batsmen.”
